Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards says Chelsea have been ‘really, really poor’ in one area on the pitch this season.
We saw it again on Saturday afternoon, and that is what bought Richards to mention it again in the aftermath of that game.

The Blues drew 1-1 at home against Burnley in their latest Premier League game – and this was against a relegation battling side.
Chelsea were leading this game 1-0 after a goal early on, but they threw it away late on after they failed to defend a corner. After the game, manager Liam Rosenior said that one of his players failed to mark the Burnley goal scorer, failing his ‘assignment’.
And former Premier League player Ben Foster believes this ‘assignment’ comment will have the Chelsea players mocking the gaffer behind his back.
Richards on Chelsea
Richards believes that Chelsea are just very poor at defending crosses in general, not just corners.
In comments picked up on X this week, the former right back said:
“Chelsea’s defending from crosses, not just set-pieces, crosses in general, has been really, really poor.”
He’s spot on unfortunately
In general, Chelsea’s defending has not been great for some time now and it is the one position that many fans believe needs upgrading the most in the summer.
They did bring Mamadou Sarr back from his loan at Strasbourg, so maybe he can help in this department. But the current crop of players have just not been good enough defending crosses really and it is something that they need to get a lot better at to avoid conceding so many of these types of goals.
