Exclusive: Celtic 29-yr-old set for end-of-season talks amid injury latest

Celtic are set for discussions over the future of striker Kelechi Iheanacho at the end of the season, sources have told Football Insider.

The 29-year-old is out of contract at Celtic Park in the summer, but the Bhoys hold the option to extend that deal by a further year, with talks over the Nigerian’s future planned for after the conclusion of the Scottish Premiership title race.

Iheanacho joined Celtic as a free agent last summer, but injuries have limited him to just five appearances in the league so far this term.

The Glasgow giants are now set to allow the frontman until the end of the season to make an impact, before a decision will then be reached as to whether the club are willing to trigger their extension clause.

Kelechi Iheanacho back in training as Celtic return nears

Iheanacho’s season has been heavily disrupted by a series of fitness problems, after he had initially made a bright start during his first few weeks in Scottish football.

The former Manchester City man hasn’t started since the defeat to St Mirren in the final of the Premier Sports Cup on 14 December, when he was forced off after just 35 minutes with a hamstring injury.

He has been recovering from that setback ever since, and recently dropped out of the matchday squad for the games against Dundee and Livingston, despite making cameo appearances for Martin O’Neill against Utrecht and Falkirk.

Celtic shared photos on Instagram of Iheanacho in full training with the rest of the squad ahead of last weekend’s clash with Kilmarnock.

While that game ultimately came too soon for the returning star, he is seemingly in the final stages of his recovery before potentially making a return to the fold.

O’Neill has hardly been able to call upon him since his return to the interim manager’s post in early January, but he could now be about to be boosted with another striker option imminently.

Bhoys and Rangers race to sign Dundee starlet

Football Insider revealed last week that Celtic and Rangers are both pushing to secure the signing of Dundee defender Luke Graham this summer.

QPR and Portsmouth both saw enquiries for the 22-year-old knocked back during the January transfer window, and further interest from the English Championship is expected at the end of the season.

Graham has played a key role for Steven Pressley’s men at the heart of their backline so far this season, and he has still only failed to start in one Scottish Premiership game so far this term.

He has quickly established himself as one of the division’s brightest young talents in 2025-26, and as a result, it is no surprise to see the Old Firm duo both sniffing around a potential move for him.
