‘Social media is not worth your life’ – FRSC comes hard on Peller – P.M. News
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has cautioned celebrities, social media influencers and content creators against using public roads as filming locations, describing the practice as dangerous and illegal. The Corps Marshal, Mallam Shehu Mohammed, issued the warning following a viral video showing popular TikTok personality, Peller, live-streaming while driving moments before being involved in a road crash. Mohammed said the use of mobile phones to record, stream or create content while driving causes serious distraction and poses grave risks to passengers and other road users. He stressed that such acts clearly violate existing traffic regulations. He consequently directed the Lagos State Sector Commander of the FRSC to commence legal action against individuals found engaging in reckless driving, phone use while driving or any form of distracted driving, in line with the law. The FRSC boss also urged actors’ guilds, entertainment bodies and influencer communities to sensitise their members on the importance of safe and responsible driving.   “Celebrities and influencers have a strong influence on young people and should promote safety, not dangerous behaviour,” Mohammed said. He warned that the corps would enforce traffic laws without fear or favour, noting that no social media trend or online popularity is worth the loss of human lives. Mohammed further reminded Nigerians that roads are shared public spaces meant to protect lives, not venues for content creation, and encouraged citizens to report cases of dangerous driving to the appropriate authorities.
