Did Enzo Maresca plot his Chelsea exit to replace Pep Guardiola at Manchester City

Did Enzo Maresca plot his Chelsea exit to replace Pep Guardiola at Manchester City?

It’s a question worth asking.

Maresca knew exactly what he was signing up for when he joined Chelsea. He knew he wouldn’t control transfers. He knew the club’s model. So why did frustration over recruitment set in so quickly?

That’s where the timing gets interesting.

Almost immediately after reports emerged that Enzo Maresca was a target for Manchester City, his relationship with Chelsea appeared to unravel. Suddenly, there were leaks. Tension. Public dissatisfaction.

If Pep Guardiola is nearing the end of his City cycle and wants Maresca as his successor, let’s be real — there’s no chance Maresca turns that down.

But there was a problem: Maresca was tied down to a long-term Chelsea contract. Chelsea would never have released him cheaply. So the only way out was chaos. Create a situation where staying becomes impossible. Walk away. Become a free man.

And timing matters.

Do this at the end of the season and it looks obvious. Do it now, step away for five months, and by the summer narrative changes. Football fans and journalists have short memories. By then, no one connects the dots.

Then there’s another detail people keep overlooking.

Maresca changed his agent to super-agent Jorge Mendes in October 2025 — just weeks before links to the Manchester City job surfaced. Coincidence?

At City, Maresca wouldn’t be managing a youth-heavy project. He’d be at a club willing to spend big — not just on potential, but on elite, experienced winners.

So did Maresca engineer his Chelsea exit to position himself perfectly for the City job?

Was this frustration… or strategy?

Only Maresca knows the truth.

  1. Could be a strategic exit but again we blame it on the owners for giving him inexperienced players.

  2. He’ll fail there too. He needs to horn his craft before he could be ready for the big stage.

  3. He was given too much time but he couldn’t correct himself

  4. George Chainda Francis Ndhlovu Mwanza

  5. Man City will thrash us on Sunday

  6. No Man City don’t even want him it’s bullshit

  7. He did! Imagine games we should have won. He placed players in games that will cause chaos for us, no staring 11, almost two years plus. Every day, u see different players on the pitch, and he called it tactics. Even those who didn’t attend coaching school will see the error in the lineup.

  8. There were some match situations pointing to the fact of deliberate attempts to failure by Maresca – otherwise he’s using our match results for betting!!

  9. He can’t replace Guardiola is too junior for the Job

  10. World champion by mistake😂😂

Back in November, Maresca was being compared to Arteta, with Chelsea fans claiming he was more tactical and a bigger genius than Arteta.

They practically said every Chelsea player was better than the entire Arsenal squad 😂

Some even went as far as saying he was on Guardiola’s level 😂that he’d replace Pep in England the moment he leaves 😂

    Fast forward to December… 😳
The same coach they crowned the best in the universe is now being heavily criticized by Chelsea fans and is now sacked 😂

Honestly, I’ve never seen fans as delusional as Chelsea’s in my life 😂
