Court issues arrest warrant for PDP chairman Turaki

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory has ordered the arrest of Kabiru Turaki, a factional national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for failing to appear before the court in an ongoing case instituted by the Nigeria Police Force.

Justice U.P. Kekemeke, who presided over the matter on Thursday, ruled that Turaki had no valid justification for his absence and consequently issued a warrant for his arrest.

The case stems from a one-count charge filed by the Inspector-General of Police, accusing Turaki of providing false information in a petition submitted to the police in October 2022.

The court’s decision marks a significant development in the legal proceedings, as authorities move to compel the former minister to answer to the allegations.

Background

The legal battle involving a factional national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kabiru Turaki, has taken a new turn following his failure to appear in court over allegations brought against him by the Nigeria Police Force.

The case, which dates back to a petition submitted in October 2022, centres on claims that the former minister provided false information to law enforcement authorities.

Presided over by Justice U.P. Kekemeke of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, the matter highlights the growing intersection of legal disputes and internal party dynamics within the PDP.

The court’s decision to issue a warrant for Turaki’s arrest underscores efforts by the judiciary to enforce accountability and ensure compliance with legal processes as the case progresses.
