Calum McFarlane shocked as he is now permanent coach of Chelsea senior team

Chelsea have moved quickly to reward Calum McFarlane, who has been confirmed as a permanent member of the senior coaching staff under new head coach Liam Rosenior.

McFarlane, 37, impressed during his brief caretaker spell following Enzo Maresca’s New Year’s Day departure, overseeing a resilient 1-1 draw away at Manchester City and a narrow 2-1 defeat to Fulham, a match heavily influenced by Marc Cucurella’s early red card.

Rosenior, who watched the Fulham game from the stands, was sufficiently impressed to personally request McFarlane’s promotion rather than allowing him to return to the Under-21s. The decision reportedly caught McFarlane by surprise, with the coach initially expecting to resume youth duties after the match.

McFarlane will now begin work immediately, with Rosenior’s first training session scheduled for Thursday and his managerial bow coming this weekend in the FA Cup away at Charlton Athletic.

Rosenior will probably need McFarlane’s assistance to understand the players’ prowess and capability in relation to his system, as he steps into a new team mid-season.

Were you impressed by Calum McFarlane?

  1. Rosenoir needs a scapegoat for when they start getting pumped

  2. This guy has the same philosophy as maresca he won’t help the new Coach

  3. Man City are a ghost of the team they were and Fulham are a bottom half of the table side🤷🏻‍♂️

  4. He will be sack with Rosennior😂😂

  5. He deserves it, he’s a great guy.

  6. Rather than give a knee jerk reaction.. I will see how it pans out… They are not idiots, and the under 21,s are not a bad bunch. As a fan I got to support the team/name no matter what? All I do know is that if the players finished half of the chances created and only gave away 50%of the mistakes they made leading to the opposition scoring we would be right behind Arsenal imho
