
The Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, in conjunction with the National Moonsighting Committee, has confirmed the sighting of the new moon of Ramadan 1447AH on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.
In a statement signed by Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs and Wazirin Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, accepted the reports and declared Wednesday, February 18, 2026, as the first day of Ramadan 1447AH.
The Sultan felicitated with the Muslim Ummah across Nigeria and prayed for Allah’s guidance and blessings throughout the holy month. He also urged Muslims to continue praying for peace, progress and development in the country, wishing the faithful a spiritually fulfilling Ramadan and praying that Allah accepts their acts of worship.
Meanwhile, a member of the committee disclosed that the Sultan is currently abroad, noting that a formal public announcement is expected to be made soon by the Shehu of Borno, who serves as Deputy President-General of the council.
