So This Happened (EP 367) reviews: Tear gas fired as Lagos residents protest forced evictions
Residents from several Lagos waterfront communities were met with tear gas near the Lagos State House of Assembly after protesting ongoing demolitions and forced evictions. The peaceful march, organised by the Coalition Against Demolition, Forced Eviction, Land Grabbing, and Displacement, was aimed at demanding compensation, proper relocation plans, and accountability for lives reportedly lost during previous demolitions.
Eyewitness videos showed protesters and journalists fleeing as tear gas filled the area. While the Lagos State Police Command denied firing live ammunition, the incident has sparked renewed debate about citizens’ rights, freedom of expression, and the use of force against vulnerable communities.
