Botswana, Africa’s leading diamond producer, is struggling to sell its diamonds

Botswana, Africa’s leading diamond producer, is struggling to sell its diamonds amid an estimated 85 per cent surge in global oversupply. Diamonds sit at the core of Botswana’s economy, financing public services, employment, and long-term national development.

A prolonged slowdown in sales now threatens government revenue and could weigh heavily on growth projections, raising fresh concerns about economic resilience in a market Botswana has long dominated.
