A Belgian court in Brussels is set to reopen scrutiny into the assassination of Patrice Lumumba

A Belgian court in Brussels is set to reopen scrutiny into the assassination of Patrice Lumumba, 65 years after his death.

Lumumba’s family is pushing for accountability as the judge weighs whether to advance proceedings against Étienne Davignon, 93, accused of involvement in Lumumba’s detention and forced transfer before his execution.

Davignon denies the allegations, as the case once again places Belgium’s colonial legacy and unresolved justice under the spotlight.
