A Chelsea player has declared that his team are “still in the race” after beating Brentford 2-0 in the Premier League on Saturday.
The score line wasn’t really an accurate representation on how the game went, and Brentford will be very annoyed that they didn’t get more from it. Chelsea got very lucky in the end to come away with two goals, a clean sheet, and all three points. But at the end of the day, a win is a win, and that is all that matters.
Sources: Chelsea hold positive talks to sign Jeremy Jacquet and close on fee agreement!
Liam Rosenior I find is often calling Chelsea players ‘outstanding’ and he did it again after this game. But in this sense, calling Robert Sanchez outstanding was entirely accurate, because the Blues stopper produced three big saves to deny Brentford and is the reason that Chelsea didn’t lose this game.
Joao Pedro opened the scoring with a brilliant strike, whilst Cole Palmer rounded out the scoring from the penalty spot in the second half.
This was enough for Chelsea to win the game, and Pedro believes now that Chelsea are still in the race. I’m not sure what race he means here. Title race? Champions League qualification race? A Formula One race!?
Pedro on Brentford win
“It’s been a while since we won a Premier League game,” said Pedro. The team had previously won just one out of nine in the league and had slipped back in the race for the Champions League.
“We didn’t play as well as we can but we won, secured a clean sheet and earned three points. That’s the important thing.
“When we play at home we need to show ourselves and be aggressive like we did. I think when you win you feel more confident, because we’re still in the race and we want to be as close to the top as possible.”
Pedro’s goal came in the 26th minute.
“We needed that goal and I want to score in as many games as possible,” he said.
