One dead, 18 injured in Adamawa road crash

One person has been confirmed dead, while 18 others sustained varying degrees of injury following a road crash near Numan, the headquarters of Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The accident involved a bus conveying 19 people, including the driver. The passengers comprised 14 men and five women, meaning that aside from the deceased, everyone in the vehicle sustained injuries.

The Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Numan, Assistant Corps Commander Idi Timothy, said the deceased passenger was identified as a citizen of the Republic of Cameroon.

The FRSC commander disclosed that a report from preliminary investigations by his officers attributed the cause of the accident to overspeeding.

“We repeat, in view of this incident, our caution to motorists to strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations to avoid crashes,” he said.

According to him, N40,000 and 300,000 CFA francs were found on the deceased and handed over to his relatives, who were also given the body for burial.

A younger brother of the deceased, AbdulRazak Bilyaminu, who received the recovered money on behalf of the family, confirmed the death of his brother in the accident.
