Nigeria has booked a place in the semi-finals of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco after a commanding 2-0 victory over Algeria in their quarter-final clash on Saturday evening.
The Super Eagles, coached by Eric Chelle, dominated much of the first half but were unable to break the deadlock. Nigeria’s best chance in the opening 45 minutes came when Calvin Bassey’s effort was cleared off the line.
The breakthrough came in the second half as Victor Osimhen rose to head in Bruno Onyemaechi’s cross, putting Nigeria ahead. Osimhen then turned provider, assisting Akor Adams for the second goal, sealing the win.
The three-time African champions will now face host nation Morocco in the semi-final as they aim to return to the AFCON final.

It’s so painful that the coach discovered his first 11, and his best tactics late. This current team would have easily qualified for the world cup. Not entirely his fault though. He actually needed time
Algeria with zero shot. Up Nigeria 🇳🇬 🙌
If you see that lady that went viral about her dream of Nigeria losing this match just hold her me till i come 😂

Man of the Match (For Me): Bright Osayi-Samuel 🇳🇬
In the just-concluded clash between Nigeria and Algeria, one player quietly put in a shift that defined discipline, balance, and pure commitment Bright Osayi-Samuel.
Playing almost 85 minutes at right full-back, he was solid defensively, fearless going forward, and tactically intelligent throughout the game. He kept his flank tight, supported attacks when needed, and showed the kind of work rate that wins tournaments, not just matches.
This wasn’t about flashy moments or social-media highlights. It was about consistency, positioning, composure, and sacrifice for the team. Performances like this are the backbone of championship runs.
As Nigeria books a place in the next round, credit must go to players who do the hard work without noise.
For me, Bright Osayi-Samuel was the Man of the Match.
Quiet excellence. Professional football. 🇳🇬🔥
