Residents of Abuja have appealed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to take urgent steps to address flooding in the NNPCL area and other parts of the nation’s capital.
In a statement by social justice crusader and Afro-pop artiste Ayokanmi Eyanro, popularly known as Frequencie, the residents identified blocked waterways, indiscriminate dumping of refuse and inadequate enforcement by the FCT administration as major human factors contributing to flooding in Abuja.
They urged Wike to take bold and proactive measures to prevent and control flooding in the FCT, stressing the need to safeguard lives and property.
“We appeal to the Minister of the FCT to be firm in tackling flooding. Climate change is real, but the minister should prevent people from blocking waterways, channels and others,” Eyanro said.
He also urged residents to embrace responsible waste disposal by using designated refuse disposal points instead of dumping waste in canals and drainage systems.

He stressed that such practices should be discouraged to reduce the risk of flooding and protect the environment.
Meanwhile, the residents commended the developmental strides of the minister, describing his achievements as unprecedented and remarkable.
Eyanro particularly praised the minister for improving the road network, installing streetlights and providing standard motor parks, saying the projects had contributed to enhancing the status of Nigeria’s capital.
