The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, secured 10,872 convictions and recovered more than N1.23 trillion in the first 34 months of the administration of its Chairman, Ola Olukoyede.

Mr Olukoyede disclosed this on Monday in Abuja while presenting an account of his stewardship since assuming office in October 2023.

He said the commission received 49,673 petitions, investigated 39,615 cases and filed 14,476 cases in court between October 2023 and July 2026.

According to him, the figures represent a conviction-to-filing ratio of 75.1 per cent.

“In the first half of 2026 alone, we recorded 1,370 convictions from 1,889 filings,” he said.

Mr Olukoyede attributed the development to sustained enforcement, institutional reforms, stronger prosecution and improved collaboration with domestic and international law enforcement agencies.

He said the commission had also intensified its focus on evidence-based investigations and courtroom outcomes.

The EFCC chairman said the pattern of economic and financial crimes had also changed, with advance fee fraud and cybercrime accounting for nearly two-thirds of 46,288 offences recorded between 2024 and 2026 year-to-date.

He said recorded offences increased by 24.1 per cent between 2024 and 2025, with notable increases in procurement fraud, bank fraud, cybercrime and economic-governance offences.

“This tells us something important: the fight against economic and financial crime is not only about grand corruption.

“Every day, we are protecting citizens, businesses and institutions from fraud, cyber-enabled crime and other forms of economic exploitation,” he said.

Mr Olukoyede said the commission would continue to prosecute cases without regard to the status of suspects.

He listed former governors, ministers, heads of agencies, financial-sector operators and corporate officials among those in its high-profile case portfolio.

He added that the commission had recently secured convictions of some prominent Nigerians, including Saleh Mamman, Robert Orya and Chukwunyere Nwabuoku.

“The principle is simple: no office or title places anyone beyond the reach of the law,” he said.
