Digital creator Amadou Elizabeth Aminata, popularly known as Jarvis, has debunked claims that she shaved her head as part of a traditional marital rite ahead of her wedding to fellow TikTok star Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller.
Jarvis explained that the decision was purely for hairstyling purposes, saying her hairstylist recommended the haircut to ensure that her wig and hair extensions would fit properly for her bridal looks.
The clarification came after speculation circulated online that the haircut was connected to a cultural or tribal marriage ritual.
Addressing the speculation on social media in a trending video on Monday, Jarvis said she shaved her hair because she wanted her wedding hairstyle to be properly installed.
“I shaved my hair because I wanted my hair installation to be perfect,” she said.
According to the digital creator, her natural hairline had previously made it difficult to achieve the desired finish when installing frontal wigs.
She added that her hairstylist advised her to shave her hair because of the texture of her natural hair.
“That is what my hairstylist recommended because I have stubborn hair,” she said.
Jarvis urged the public to desist from attributing unverified cultural practices to her wedding, stressing that the decision had nothing to do with any traditional marital requirement.
Her clarification comes as she and Peller conclude their highly publicised wedding celebrations with their white wedding.
Peller and Jarvis held their white wedding on Saturday, with the ceremony streamed live on Twitch and YouTube for fans unable to attend physically.
The couple had earlier announced a significantly reduced guest list for the white wedding, with Peller saying only between 80 and 100 guests would be admitted.
The decision followed complaints over the scale of their traditional wedding on August 1, where Peller claimed some attendees obtained the couple’s aso-ebi merely to gain access to the event and record content rather than celebrate with them.
He also announced that bloggers would not be allowed into the white wedding, describing the ceremony as a more private event for close family members, friends and selected industry colleagues.
Despite the disruptions at the traditional wedding, Peller said the ceremony was ultimately successful.
The white wedding marked the latest stage in the couple’s journey to marriage, which has been closely followed by their large social media fan base.
Peller proposed to Jarvis in Ghana in June, after which the couple travelled to Benin City, Edo State, where he paid her bride price and completed the traditional rites with her family.
They subsequently conducted their court wedding in Lagos on July 29, before their traditional wedding in Lekki, Lagos, on August 1.
The traditional wedding attracted several celebrities, musicians and social media influencers and became one of the most talked-about celebrity weddings of the year.
The couple also received several high-value gifts from well-wishers, including a N400m mansion in Abuja, cash gifts and a plot of land.
The ceremony also produced several viral moments, including socialite Pretty Mike’s mock medical-team entrance and a video showing a tout being knocked down by a car near the venue.
The wedding was, however, not without controversy, as some Nigerians questioned the couple’s age and readiness for marriage.
Peller and Jarvis dismissed the concerns and continued with their wedding plans.
Their decision to hold a smaller white wedding followed Peller’s complaints about the crowd and content creators at their traditional ceremony.
The couple had earlier said the white wedding would be more intimate, while fans who could not attend were given the opportunity to watch the ceremony online.
