Quintessential NUJ FCT chairman Grace Ike bags Media Leadership, Civic Engagement Award at Emporium’s 10th Anniversary

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has been honoured with the Media Leadership and Civic Engagement Award at the Emporium Lecture and Awards ceremony held to mark the media organisation’s 10th anniversary.

Speaking at the event on Thursday, Ike described Emporium’s decade-long commitment to credible journalism as a remarkable achievement, noting that sustaining a media platform for 10 years reflects resilience, vision, and dedication to the core values of the profession.

She congratulated the publisher, editorial team, and entire Emporium family, stating that their consistency and professionalism had earned them the milestone celebration.

Addressing the theme of the event, “From Clicks to Credibility: Digital Media’s Role in Deepening Nigeria’s Democracy,” Ike stressed that credibility remains the bedrock of journalism and democratic governance.

“In an era where the speed of information often outpaces its accuracy, credibility is non-negotiable. It is the foundation upon which democracy is built and sustained,” she said.

The NUJ FCT chairman reaffirmed the council’s commitment to supporting media organisations that prioritise truth, accountability, and public interest over sensationalism and online traffic.

She urged journalists to see themselves as partners in nation-building by telling impactful stories, holding leaders accountable, and promoting positive examples capable of driving good governance and national development.

“By celebrating credible leadership, we encourage others to raise their standards and collectively expand the space for good governance, peace, and development,” Ike stated.

She described the recognition as both a reward and a reminder of the responsibility that comes with leadership, urging award recipients to continue serving with humility, fairness, and courage.

Ike also congratulated all honourees and encouraged them to view the awards as a call to greater service.

She concluded by felicitating with Emporium on its 10th anniversary and expressed optimism that the media organisation would achieve even greater success in the years ahead.
