
Several people are feared dead after suspected herdsmen launched an attack along the Odugbeho–Aila Road in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to information gathered, the victims were on their way back from their farms when the attackers, who had reportedly laid in wait, ambushed them and opened fire.
As of the time of filing this report, the exact number of casualties remains uncertain. However, at least four bodies have been recovered from the scene, raising fears that the death toll could be higher.
Local sources say tension has gripped the area following the incident, with residents expressing concern over the recurring violence in the community.
Among the victims were identified as Joy Simon and Lyta Monet.
Efforts to get official confirmation proved abortive, as the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, Edet Udeme, did not respond to calls and messages sent to him.
Similarly, calls placed to the Agatu Local Government Chairman, Melvin Ejeh, were not answered as of the time of filing this report.
