Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has appealed to the Lagos State House of Assembly for sustained support to enable his administration complete ongoing strategic projects before the end of its tenure.
Speaking at the 19th Executive-Legislative Parley held at Eko Hotels and Suites, the governor emphasized that collaboration between the executive and legislative arms remains critical to delivering on his administration’s THEMES+ Agenda.
Sanwo-Olu commended the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, and lawmakers for maintaining a cordial working relationship, noting that key legislations passed by the House have provided the legal backbone for major programmes, including transport reforms and infrastructure financing.
He highlighted the role of the assembly in approving budgets, conducting oversight, and amplifying citizens’ voices, describing these efforts as the “scaffolding” supporting the state’s development strides.
The governor stressed that his call for continued backing was driven by responsibility, not uncertainty, assuring that no critical government project would be abandoned.
He pledged to complete and commission major transport infrastructure before the end of his administration.
Sanwo-Olu also revealed plans to present a comprehensive Legacy and Transition Bill to institutionalise key policies, ensuring continuity beyond his tenure.
In addition, he announced the intention to convene a Citizens’ Assembly to promote inclusive governance, bringing together women, youth, persons with disabilities, and other underrepresented groups.
He further disclosed that a detailed, data-driven “State of Lagos Report” would be published by the third quarter of the year to provide transparency on achievements and pending deliverables.
“As we approach transition, political pressures may rise, but we must remain focused. Governance must continue with full commitment until the last day of our mandate,” he said.
Earlier, the Special Adviser on Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Afolabi Abiodun Tajudeen, underscored the importance of civic participation in strengthening trust and accountability in governance.
He noted that initiatives such as the Eko Cares financial assistance programme and the Mother, Infant and Child Development Programme have significantly impacted vulnerable residents, particularly in healthcare and social support.
The parley reinforced the administration’s push for deeper collaboration as Lagos moves toward the final phase of the current government cycle.
