Abubakar Yusuf, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has cautioned President Bola Tinubu against relying on the support of APC governors ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning that many lack genuine grassroots popularity.
Speaking on Channels Television’s “Sunday Politics” show, the former federal lawmaker argued that the electoral value of some governors may be overstated, noting that their influence may not necessarily translate into votes at the polls.
Despite the warning, Yusuf maintained that the ruling party is not “jittery” about the opposition, attributing this to what he described as persistent disunity among opposition leaders.
He, however, raised concerns about potential internal crises within the APC, cautioning that “implosions” arising from disputes over candidate selection could trigger conflicts and weaken the party if not properly managed ahead of 2027.
