Aliyu redeems pledge to build classrooms for Sokoto school

Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has redeemed his pledge to construct a block of two classrooms at Sheikh Habibu Darul Qur’an Wal Hadith Islamiyya School in the Gidan Salanke area of Wamakko Local Government Area.

The governor, who made a stopover to inspect the project, commended the contractor for executing quality work at the school.

He explained that the contract was awarded following a request by the school management during the last graduation ceremony for additional classrooms to accommodate the increasing number of pupils.

“I commend the contractor not only for executing a quality project but also for delivering it before the expiration of the three-month timeframe given by the State Government,” the Governor said.

He also directed that chairs and desks be provided to the school immediately, to ensure a more conducive teaching and learning environment.

“I also wish to use this medium to call on the school management and parents to ensure proper maintenance of this facility,” he added.

Earlier, the Head Teacher of the school, Kasimu Bello, thanked the governor for fulfilling his promise by constructing the block of two classrooms as requested by the school management.

He prayed to Almighty Allah to continue to guide the governor in all his undertakings.

The governor has also assured that the four additional motor parks being constructed by his administration will soon be completed and ready for use.

He gave the assurance on Thursday evening while commiserating with victims of the fire disaster at the Sokoto Central Motor Park.

Governor Aliyu stated that the four motor parks are currently at various stages of completion and will soon be put into operation. He attributed the fire outbreak partly to congestion at the Sokoto Central Motor Park.

“Our motor parks are gradually becoming congested due to the increase in population, hence the need to decongest them,” he said.

“That is why we came up with the idea of constructing four motor parks located in different parts of the metropolis.”

The governor assured victims of the fire outbreak of the state government’s support to help them recover and continue their businesses.

He also appealed to the victims to accept the incident as the will of Almighty Allah and prayed for protection against future occurrences of such disasters in the state.

Earlier, the State Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Nasiru Aliyu Dan Tsoho, informed the governor that no lives were lost in the incident, although several property was destroyed.
