Gov. Lawal joins Tinubu’s delegation for historic UK state visit — Daily Nigerian


Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has been selected to accompany President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on a historic state visit to the United Kingdom, scheduled to begin on Tuesday.

The President, alongside the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, and other members of the presidential delegation, will depart Abuja for the official visit, which is expected to deepen diplomatic and economic ties between both countries.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Zamfara governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the visit will take place from March 18 to 19 and will feature a series of high-level engagements involving political, economic and cultural exchanges.

The statement disclosed that King Charles III will host President Tinubu, his wife and members of the Nigerian delegation at Windsor Castle, where several official events have been lined up in honour of the visiting Nigerian leader.

“Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal will join President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s entourage for a historic visit to the United Kingdom on March 18 and 19, 2026,” the statement said.

It added that the primary objective of the visit is to strengthen bilateral relations between Nigeria and the United Kingdom and explore new opportunities for collaboration in key areas such as immigration, trade, investment and cultural exchange.

As part of the itinerary, President Tinubu and members of the delegation will attend a special exhibition at Windsor Castle showcasing items from the Royal Collection connected to Nigeria.

The event will highlight the historical and cultural ties between the two nations.

In the evening, the Royal Family is expected to host a State Banquet in honour of the Nigerian leader and his entourage.

During the visit, President Tinubu will also meet with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer for bilateral talks aimed at expanding cooperation between both countries.

The discussions are expected to culminate in the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding covering trade, investment, defence and cultural cooperation.

The Nigerian president will further serve as guest of honour at the Nigerian Modernism exhibition, which celebrates modern Nigerian art and culture.

He will also participate in a reception involving Nigerian and British business leaders, as well as members of the Nigerian diaspora in the United Kingdom.

According to the statement, Governor Lawal’s inclusion in the presidential delegation is expected to provide opportunities for networking and investment discussions that could translate into economic benefits for Zamfara State.

The visit is considered a significant diplomatic engagement and part of ongoing efforts to strengthen relations between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
