National Assembly of Nigeria will soon enact legislation establishing State Police – Orji Uzor Kalu

Former two-term Abia State governor and serving senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has predicted that the National Assembly of Nigeria will soon enact legislation establishing state police in the country, adding that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is already taking steps that would ensure its legal activation.

Kalu said the proposed state police system is both desirable and necessary but stressed that the enabling law must include provisions for prosecuting any governor who contravenes its regulations.

The senator spoke on Friday during the first-quarter tripartite meeting of the OUK Movement, the Reality Organisation and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, held at his Camp Neya country home in Igbere, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.

He commended APC members in the state for conducting peaceful ward, local government and state congresses, revealing that he and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, both from Abia North, had worked together to ensure the success of the exercises.

According to him, the successful congresses followed the reconciliation of party members across the state.
