A political support group, Asiwaju Project Beyond 2027, has called on leaders at all levels to uphold trust, and accountability in the discharge of their responsibilities.
Mr Abdulhakeem Olugbode, who welcomed guests on behalf of the group on Thursday in Abuja at the 2026 Asiwaju Ramadan lecture and special prayer for the nation, stressed the need for collective nation-building.
Olubgode said the theme of the lecture, “Ramadan and Responsible Leadership: Amanah (Trust)”, underscores the importance of integrity and service in leadership.
He noted that Ramadan teaches discipline, sacrifice and accountability, stressing that leadership is a sacred trust bestowed by God and the people.
“Leadership is a sacred responsibility, a trust from God and from the people.
“Ramadan is a season of reflection, discipline, sacrifice, compassion and accountability; it teaches us that authority is not ownership, it is stewardship,” he said.
Olugbode said President Tinubu had demonstrated courage through economic reforms aimed at stabilising public finances and repositioning Nigeria’s economy for sustainable growth.
Delivering the keynote lecture, the Chief Imam of the National Mosque Abuja, Prof. Shehu Galadanci, represented by Muhammad Kabir Adam, said fasting instills discipline, sincerity and accountability.
He explained that Ramadan teaches obedience, sacrifice and respect for leadership, urging public office holders to remain faithful to the trust placed on them by the people.
The cleric prayed for divine guidance, wisdom and success for President Tinubu and members of his cabinet in addressing the nation’s challenges.
“Ramadan is a trust between you and God, so this should reflect in our actions.
“We prayed Allah to bless this country, secure it and provide solutions to our security, economic and social challenges,” he said.
In another lecture, Sheik Abdulmumin Ashiribo said Ramadan promotes ethical leadership through patience, sincerity and self-discipline.
According to him, the ultimate goal of fasting is to attain “Taqwa’ (God-consciousness), which enables leaders to make responsible and ethical decisions.
Participants also offered prayers for lasting peace, unity and prosperity in Nigeria and for the success of Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
The event, organised by Mufutau Yinusa, Special Adviser to the President on Agriculture, and Adamson Ayinde, Senior Special Assistant on Industrial Training and Development, drew Muslims from different walks of life. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
