The Chairman-Elect of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, Christopher Maikalangu, has donated a borehole to the Nigeria Union of Journalists FCT Council as part of efforts to support grassroots development and strengthen cooperation with the media.
The donation was announced on Thursday when the Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, Grace Ike, paid Maikalangu a congratulatory visit following his victory in last Saturday’s municipal elections. She was represented by the Council’s Vice Chairman, Yahaya Ndambabo.
Speaking during the visit, Ndambabo thanked the chairman-elect for the warm reception and the borehole donation, describing the gesture as a reflection of Maikalangu’s commitment to grassroots development and partnership with the media.
He congratulated the chairman-elect on what he described as a landslide victory, noting that the result demonstrated the confidence residents of AMAC have in his leadership.
Ndambabo also highlighted infrastructure projects executed during Maikalangu’s first term, particularly in Sabon Lugbe and surrounding communities, while reaffirming the NUJ FCT Council’s role in covering and monitoring elections across the six area councils in the Federal Capital Territory.
He urged the chairman-elect to build on his achievements in the second term, noting that the donation further demonstrated his people-oriented leadership.
Responding, Maikalangu appreciated the NUJ FCT Council for the visit and for its consistent media support, attributing his re-election to grassroots engagement, infrastructure development and empowerment initiatives.
He emphasised that grassroots politics played a decisive role in the election outcome, noting that his administration’s projects helped build public confidence.
Maikalangu also commended the All Progressives Congress for what he described as unity and effective grassroots mobilisation, which he said contributed to the turnout recorded during the elections.
He added that the borehole donation reflected his commitment to collaborative development and sustained engagement with key stakeholders, including the media.
