Arsenal could revisit a move for a former transfer target in the summer window who Gunners legend Ian Wright has previously wanted at the club.
Goals from Martin Zubimendi and Viktor Gyokeres ensured Arsenal beat Sunderland 3-0 to go nine points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.
Mikel Arteta has transformed the Arsenal squad over the years, with the Gunners now looking primed to win a first league title in over 20 years, and they also have a chance of winning the Carabao Cup, FA Cup and Champions League this season.
Whilst they already have one of the strongest squads in the Premier League, Arteta has shown his desire to continually keep improving his team every season, which looks set to carry on this summer.
Ian Wright praises Leon Goretzka
According to The Mirror, Arsenal will be among a number of European clubs looking to sign Leon Goretzka in the summer transfer window.
Goretzka’s contract at Bayern Munich expires at the end of the season, meaning the 31-year-old is expected to be available on a free transfer.
Speaking on the Wrighty’s House podcast in 2023, the former Arsenal striker was urging Arteta to sign the midfielder.
“Oh my god, Goretzka, go and get him,” Wright said.
“You can’t tell that that player wouldn’t look at what Arsenal are doing and not fancy that. You can’t tell me that, no way, they would all be intrigued.
“If it comes to a point where money is a problem then it’s not the right person for the dressing room.
“You have to make sure that the player Arsenal want to attract is experienced and of the same mind.”
Goretzka has been at Bayern Munich since 2018, winning the Bundesliga multiple times alongside a Champions League triumph in the 2019-20 season.

Arsenal have alternative midfield target
Arteta was exploring a late move for a midfielder in the January transfer window after Mikel Merino picked up an injury which could keep the Spaniard out for up to four months.
Arsenal were linked with Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali, with the Italian now looking set to try and force an exit away from Eddie Howe’s side in the summer.

Champions League qualification may be required at Newcastle to try and tempt the 25-year-old to remain at the club beyond this season.
Newcastle have no plans to sell Tonali, and they could demand a hefty transfer fee to let the midfielder depart.
However, Newcastle are 11 points off the top four, and any European football next season is looking increasingly in doubt, which could prove to be Arsenal’s advantage in agreeing a deal.
