Igbo group launches ballot revolution campaign for effective political participation

An Igbo group under the umbrella of the Igbo National Council (INC) has launched a programme termed the Ballot Revolution campaign for 2027 electoral participation.

The group said that the main purpose of the initiative is to mobilize for more effective political relevance through voting, targeting over 20 million voter registrations within the region.

Expatiating on the initiative, the National Coordinator of the group, Chilos Godsent, stated in a press statement that the move is to encourage mass political involvement of the Igbo nation in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.

He noted that INC believes votes are the strongest instrument through which political power can be acquired, especially in the current state of Nigeria.

“The project is designed to mobilize twenty million Igbo voters to register, vote, and influence state, regional, and national elections in 2027. INC has warned that low voter turnout weakens the Igbo nation politically, and called the previously experienced voter apathy ‘self-inflicted,’” he observed.

The INC Coordinator added that the initiative was launched because the Igbo nation felt politically excluded from national leadership and decision-making organs in Nigeria’s bureaucracy, economic framework, and security architecture.

He pointed out that survey reports revealed that the Igbo nation in Nigeria faces challenges such as limited federal appointments, abandoned infrastructures, and lack of political influence.

“INC and its allied groups argue that only active political participation can correct this marginalization. Igbo people are widely dispersed across Nigeria and form the largest voting population if properly activated, but this has not translated into political power.

“INC leadership understands that the Igbo population is large but not effectively organized politically. Therefore, the Igbo Nation Ballot Revolution 2027 seeks to unify Igbo votes as a powerful political bloc in Nigeria,” he added.

Godsent asserted that INC is of the opinion that poor political coordination among Igbo people has prevented the region from achieving national political leadership, hence the need to form a common front.

He explained that the project further aims to create a collective political vision and strategy for the zone come 2027, adding that the group has plans to launch an **‘Igbo Political Charter’** during its 2026 political summit to guide the political action of the region.

“INC sees the 2027 elections as a strategic year for restructuring Igbo nation political relevance in Nigeria. Therefore, it seeks to position the region’s votes as the ‘kingmakers’ vote in Nigeria from 2027 onwards.”
