A Perth man allegedly st%bbed by his fiancée during a domestic dispute has said he is ready to forgive her, insisting the incident was out of character and a misunderstanding.
Police were called to a home in Thornlie around 10pm on Sunday, where 47-year-old Matt Lester was found with two st%b wo¥nds. His fiancée, Laureen Gaye Sprenger, 47, was charged with unlawful wo¥nding with circumstances of aggravation and appeared in Armadale Magistrates Court on Monday.
During police questioning, Ms Sprenger reportedly said she was frustrated with her partner for being lazy and not helping around the house. She also allegedly admitted thinking about st%bbing him and said she would kill him if she saw him again.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Mr Lester showed his inj¥ries, saying: “I got a reasonable-sized slice to my chest near the collarbone, and another two-inch c¥t to my shoulder, about 20 staples all up.”
Despite the inj¥ries, he said he was more worried about his fiancée than himself.
“The only thing that hurts is my heart, I can’t sleep, I just miss her so much,” he said. “I’m not worried about anything. I love my missus, and I hope to see her home real soon.”
He denied claims that the incident was caused by an argument over chores.
“The whole thing was a misunderstanding, I think she was dr¥gged because I’ve never seen her like that before,” he said. “She completely blacked out.”
Mr Lester explained that earlier that evening, she had been drinking with a neighbour and later became unable to walk.
“She’s never been like that,” he added.
The couple, who met on Facebook and have been together for six years, moved from Brisbane three years ago to start afresh. Mr Lester said their relationship has never been v+olent and that they do not use dr¥gs.
“We left all that bullsh+t behind,” he said.
He claimed Ms Sprenger has no memory of the incident and believes it is forgivable.
“I just want her to come home, we’ll get through this,” he said.
