It has to be the singer. You can write a nice song but without a good singer, it will never be a hit. There have been instances where same song was rendered by different artists and people tend to prefer one to the other despite the fact that they are singing the same thing. Blackface claimed that he wrote African Queen, now imagine if Blackface had rendered it solo like 2face did, do you think it would have “blown” ? Now lets look at the producer’s side, if you produce a nice beat, you will still need a good singer to “kill the beat” to make it a hit. Imagine singing rubbish to a wonderful beat, do you think it will “blow”?
