Former Anambra State governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has issued a stern warning to electoral officials who might attempt to manipulate the counting of votes in the 2027 general elections.
Addressing a gathering in Akwa Ibom State, Obi underscored the importance of citizen participation and transparency in the electoral process.
“In the upcoming election in 2027, anybody who refuses to count our vote, we will count the person join. Anybody who refused to count our votes in 2027, we will count him,” he stated.
The event concluded with calls for political actors and citizens alike to support a peaceful, credible, and inclusive electoral process in 2027.
Obi, who departed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following disputes over the party’s 2023 nomination process, later joined the Labour Party to contest the presidential election.
His campaign, noted for championing transparency and accountability, particularly resonated with young Nigerians.
Observers say Obi’s experience in the 2023 polls has strengthened his commitment to electoral integrity, with a focus on ensuring proper vote counting and preventing malpractices in future elections.
In December 2025, Obi officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signalling his continued engagement in national politics and his intention to participate in future elections under a new party platform.
