ECN Upgrades Information Processing Techniques For Digital Transformation

The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) has embarked on capacity building for its staffers in order to upgrade its information processing technique to work with new advanced technology products in line with the Federal Government digital transformation objectives.

The Director General of the Commission, Dr. Abdullahi Mustapha, during the opening of a 3-day capacity building, which commenced in Abuja on Tuesday, said it has become necessary to establish adequate and advanced ICT platforms, including websites, portals, Local Area Networks, Internet connectivity, procurement of advanced personal computers, IT peripherals and various software packages and applications.

He said, “the fast growing technological advancement in the 21st Century, requires frequent upgrade of software and hardware as well as training of staff in order to catch up with advancement. Also, in this era of information explosion, the technology of yesterday is not enough to compete with available technologies of today.”

He said further that this was one of the reasons the federal government started the e-government project and integration of all the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) into digital literacy programme through the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in collaboration with CISCO

He noted that this development will further accelerate the efficiency of service delivery in all MDAs as well as the digital transformation dream of the government.

“We are building the capacity of our ICT staff and some selected categories of staff from other departments in the commission to equip them as IT champions who can help to provide help-desk support to users within their departments/units when the commission is fully digitized,” he stated.

The ECN boss, who launched new advanced technology products for the commission, also encouraged all participants to actively engage, share experience and forge partnerships that will contribute to the success of digital transformation and achievement of the ECN mandate.

Director of ICT at the commission, Engineer Stephen Adebayo, who was represented by Director, Electricity, Engineer Felix Olu, said the advanced technology products coupled with the training will boost staff morale and positively affect their productivity.

He added that the capacity building programme was designed to strengthen the commission’s digital transformation capabilities and enhance operational efficiency in line with the ECN statutory mandate and the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy.

He noted that under the leadership of Abdullahi, the ECN has made substantial investment in equipping its ICT infrastructure with the essential technologies and tools necessary to drive a reliable and sustainable digital transformation process.
