CITAD unveils geo-location model to revolutionise agriculture – Blueprint Newspapers Limited

The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has introduced its innovative Geolocation Model Project designed to revolutionise agricultural operations and asset management.

CITAD, Monday, held a media presentation at their Creativity Lab in Kano to unveil the groundbreaking technology.

In his address, CITAD’s executive director, Y.Z Ya’u, stated how the project leverages geo locations to empower farmers and agricultural businesses.

He said: “This innovation allows for live tracking and management of assets, minimising the impact of theft or misplacement.”

For instance, a sensor can be attached to cattle, providing real-time location data in case of cattle rustling. Similarly, it can be used to track stolen vehicles, allowing for swift recovery with the help of security personnel.”

The project’s lead developer, Musa Chadi, stated the importance of the ‘Internet of Things (IoT)’ in the innovation.

“IoT empowers us to leverage technology for better understanding of everyday objects like doors, air conditioners, and water control systems.

“By using IoT, we achieve accurate asset location with lower bandwidth requirements, resulting in reduced costs compared to traditional mobile technology,” he stated.

Chadi elaborated on the project’s two key functionalities, noting that it can be used for “Remote Water Management: that is, this feature allows for wireless control and monitoring of water distribution, optimising irrigation and ensuring efficient fertilizer application across farms.”

“It can also be used for Real-Time Asset Tracking: Regardless of location, users can pinpoint the exact location of their assets, enhancing security and minimising loss,” he said.
