Chelsea star Conor Gallagher could start for England vs Slovenia
According to Sky Sports, Gareth Southgate is set to experiment with his midfield in England’s last Euro 2024 group game against Slovenia as he will deploy Chelsea star Conor Gallagher in place of Trent Alexander-Arnold as the Three Lions hope to top their group.
Southgate altered his lineup in Euro as he played Liverpool star Trent on the middle of the pitch, but it hasn’t bore fruit as England have appeared to be exposed in the middle of the pitch, creating too much space for the opposition to exploit.
England opened their quest for the trophy with a narrow 1-0 win against Serbia then faced a 1-1 draw against Denmark and now they will face Slovenia and will hope to top the Group. However, their performances haven’t been convincing and Southgate feels the need to add more steel to the midfield.
Trent, Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice have been in the heart of England’s midfield but the Liverpool star has failed to add a defensive ability to the midfield while Bellingham operating far up the pitch has left the midfield far too open.
The addition of Gallagher will help the midfield cover the space left by the Three Lions in the last matches, and he will also add aggressiveness with his constant pressing. However, Gallagher won’t be as good as Trent in the technical aspect of the game but currently, they already have enough technical players in the squad.
They need some solidity because in the last two matches England have been sub-par.
Southgate now has one game to show that he can bring a more exciting approach instead of a conservative system because England, with the talent at their disposal must be playing some of the best football in the tournament.

Gallagher improved a lot last season at Chelsea and his addition to the lineup will provide Rice an extra hand in covering the space and dispossessing the opposition with his pressing.
