The Zamfara State Government has called for collaboration with the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, in the fight against drug abuse and human trafficking.
Pharmacist Ishaq Ibrahim Anka, Executive Secretary of the Zamfara State Substance Abuse Control and Human Trafficking Agency, made the call during a courtesy visit to the NYSC Secretariat on Monday.
Anka described drug abuse and human trafficking as two of the world’s largest criminal enterprises that affect people of all ages.
According to him, “The agency was established by Governor Dauda Lawal to combat these twin problems in the state. Various programs have already been lined up to actualize its mandate.”
The head of the agency described the NYSC as an institution that molds leaders of tomorrow and called for its support in the areas of public enlightenment and the posting of qualified personnel.
In his response, the State Coordinator, Mallam Muhammed Lawan Ahmed, thanked the agency for identifying with the scheme.
He described drug abuse as a serious issue that breeds criminality in society, disclosing that the scheme, through its community development initiatives, is actively involved in the campaign against the menace.
“We are ready and willing to collaborate with you. The NYSC already has corps members on the ground who are campaigning against these issues. In camp, we also sensitize our corps members on drug abuse, illegal migration, and human trafficking. We will work with you to ensure that this message spreads across the board,” the coordinator assured.
