WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg announced he will have his retirement match in 2025 as the Crown Jewel event kicked off on Saturday.
However, the wrestling icon didn’t make the announcement in Saudi Arabia.
Instead, appeared on ESPN’s SEC Nation and revealed WWE‘s Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque granted his request for one more match.
“Here’s the deal, here’s the news of the day… in 2025, Goldberg is having his retirement match,” he told the show.
“I’ve got a couple of months to get ready, no date, no time, so stay tuned.”
The 57-year-old also teased that he could be facing Gunther in his final match.
“I think we know who the victim, probably the front runner is,” he said, speaking over a clip of his clash with the world heavyweight champion at Bad Blood last month.
Goldberg’s last match in WWE was a defeat to Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber back in 2022.
Their bout, for the Universal Championship, lasted just six minutes in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
He has previously discussed the idea of a retirement match, revealing that Vince McMahon gave him his word that it would happen.
“Oh, man, I’d love to, dude – 100 per cent,” he said of having one more match back in June.
“You know how it is. Vince and I spoke about it. He gave me his word, but all that stuff happened, and, hey, man, I don’t hold grudges.
“Vince gave me so many opportunities, man, I’ll be forever grateful.
“But yeah, I would absolutely love to have that final match. I would.
“Am I good not having it? Yeah, I’m fine with it. But it’d be neat to have one.”
Gunther, meanwhile, isn’t shying away from a potential match against Goldberg.
Speaking ahead of Crown Jewel, he admitted he would happily teach the Hall of Famer a ‘lesson’ in the ring.
“I was invited out there to speak about the Crown Jewel Championship, and we had a lot of legends in the house,” Gunther said of the pair’s run-in at Bad Blood. “I met a lot of them backstage.
“And one of the very few I didn’t meet that I just saw was there before was Goldberg. So when our eyes crossed basically, I was like, ‘Why not break some balls a little bit?’ I’ve done him…
“He doesn’t seem to be able to take things lightly. I tried to lighten up the mood a little bit. But if push comes to shove and he thinks he wants to get back into the business and wrestle again, then I’m happy to teach him a lesson.”
