But what was to follow for the former, was an injury that had was so grotesque, it had rarely been seen in combat sports before.

The pair exchanged in a bloody war of attrition over the opening two rounds, with Redfearn taking several bouncing blows to the face throughout.

As the fight went on, a large and nasty-looking gash appeared above his right eye which his corner attempted to treat.

But incredibly his eye went on to swell completely shut, which distorted the right side of his face.

And to make matters worse, he suffered a horrific looking broken nose, with it bending towards his damaged eye in a bad way.

It left his face looking entirely disfigured and distorted, with many describing it to have ‘caved in’ from the damaging blows.

He went to his corner and was eventually called to see a doctor, who took one look at the severe damage and halted the contest.

Fans reacted to the horrific injuries which halted the bout with seconds on the clock of the second period, with one writing: “Holy s**t.”

Another reacted: “God damn, that is really really bad.”

A fan agreed: “Wow, I have never seen anything like it.”
