Why a 9-5 job will never be my thing

On the 23rd of March, 2019. I made up my mind not to ever get a 9-5 job not because it is bad, but because I had a funny experience.

Exactly 10 am, I arrived at the venue of a bank I never applied for a job but a friend worked a slot for me. Two days before my friend reached out to me that the bank he works at is currently hiring. Without proper Curriculum Vitae, on getting to the location, my friend’s girlfriend who happens to be working in the bank quickly prepare a resume using the resume of those who applied for the job. From what I saw, these people deserve to get hired but you know how this country works if that rings a bell. I have never been in a situation like this, I didn’t tell anyone I was going for an interview, maybe if I did I could have saved myself from the disgrace.

Shortly after I submitted the resume, a middle age man escort me to a room where there was a desktop computer, the room was chilled, a typical example of an office with a desk where the computer was placed and a black office chair. I sat down, trying to make myself comfortable and watch as he prepare the interview that was already on the desktop computer. I passed the test which was an excel test that any common person will pass. I presume some of those who applied would have done better than I did if they had the chance having see their resume. Truth is I was only at the venue due to pressure to get a job as a fresh graduate without a certificate back then.

Fast forward to the experience of sitting in traffic for hours which I hate, I am not sure anyone in Lagos hates traffic more than I do. before I get home that day, it was late at night with the heavy rain that eventually turn my white to brown, the experience wasn’t funny. That night, as I lay on my bed, I could only imagine the distance, and the stress I will have to face every day.

Today, I have listened to people who hate their jobs but find it hard to quit their job.
Most people find it hard to switch between careers. One common fact of successful people is knowing when to walk away from a business that is not working, a job they don’t like.

Recently, one of my mentees dropped her job. When she signed up for my course, she was scared of the unknown but she took the leap of faith. She will spend hours discussing with me on phone back then, it was a difficult time for both of us. I constantly tell her to be patient, everything will fall in place eventually. When she did land her first gigs, the rest was history. She’d come to me to thank me often, I constantly remind her it was her effort that brought the result she got, I only help with my guidance. Today, we laugh over those moments.

The crux of the matter is the job she landed covers her five monthly salaries, she could easily get this done in a week or two. I admire her efforts, it is not easy to learn a skill while there is no money coming in but “she took the leaps of faith”.

Remember, it only takes one decision to get to the top ?. Such decisions do not fear the pains that come with persistence and endurance while waiting for the mystery of fate to unfold. Make your decision today, with the mind of standing every trial that comes with it.

Moon-Uranus conjunction in Aquarius with Mercury opposition – that’s a lot of air, that is the constant change of scenery, people, and emotions is necessary to feel secure and not bored.

South Node is in Pisces, in the 8th House – going through crises/transformation with connection to something bigger than humanity is known from previous lives: doesn’t look like a steady job will be that appealing; and life mission is to get the experience of earning money/resources in a clever, Virgo way.

10th House ruler Mars in conjunction with Venus in the 12 House with aspect from Jupiter: a lot of ambitions and no satisfaction with 9-5 schedule and ordinary work. Your idea of a goal-setting business probably comes from that Jupiter aspect because goals are ruled by Jupiter.

Saturn in the 10th House – that’s about being a part of a structure, and hierarchy, so in course of events there are opportunities for 9-5 jobs, but psychologically it doesn’t seem viable.
