The forum of Delta State Civil Society and Non-Governmental Organisations, on Thursday, called on President Bola Tinubu to use subsidy savings to fix refineries.
The leaders of the forum, Mr Toju Binitie and Mr Okezi Odugala, who stated this in Asaba while reacting to the announcement made by the Federal Government on the distribution of palliative, said the money saved from subsidy removal is more than enough to repair two of the refineries in the country rather than palliative, which will end up in the hands of politicians.
They said, “We are calling on the President to use money saved from subsidy removal to fix refineries in the country.
“As a fallback from Mr President’s assertion that a lot of money has been saved since the subsidy removal commencement, we hereby advise Mr President to reinvest such money into the economy and make goods and services affordable and available to the citizens.
“This money should go into developing infrastructure that will enhance electricity supply, transportation, education, and healthcare delivery.
“The government should stop the act of dishing out freebies to Nigerians under the guise of providing palliatives because it will end in the hands of politicians and cannot cushion the effect.”
The activists lamented that the current economic situation in Nigeria is biting harder, urging that urgent measures be taken by the government at all levels to ameliorate the suffering
