- Lawmakers in the Green Chamber have reportedly begun receiving their Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs), with the first batch of SUVs for legislators in the Red Chamber expected this week. The remaining set of SUVs designated for the lawmakers is anticipated to arrive before December.
- The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, has submitted a warrant of arrest and an extradition request to the Crown Prosecution Services of the United Kingdom for the former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Allison-Madueke. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) made this formal request following an order by President Bola Tinubu.
- Following the Supreme Court’s verdict on Thursday affirming President Bola Tinubu’s victory, leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have initiated plans to restructure the party. They intend to convene their 98th National Executive Committee meeting shortly. The last NEC meeting of the party was organized by the former PDP Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, on September 8, 2022.
- The Adamawa State Governorship Electoral Petitions Tribunal has dismissed the petition filed by Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani against Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri. The tribunal, led by Chairman T. O. Uloho, dismissed Sen. Binani’s petition and upheld the victory of Governor Umaru Fintiri, who was declared the winner of the March 18th governorship election in Adamawa.
- Speedy trials by mobile courts are set to become a routine procedure as the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) endorses plans to combat Sexual and Gender-based Violence (SGBV) in Nigeria. Minister for Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohaneye, announced that tough times await those involved in such practices, as many states will soon begin the trial of offenders.
- In the first phase of the rollout in 15 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), approximately 7.7 million Nigerian girls are expected to be vaccinated against cervical cancer. The country, with support from Gavi and other partners, has acquired six million doses for the rollout campaign. An additional eight million doses are expected before the end of December, as stated by Emily Kobayashi, Head of HOV Programme, Gavi.
- The Federal Government has disclosed that comprehensive maintenance work on the Third Mainland Bridge, involving resurfacing and lighting, will commence on Wednesday, November 1. This three-month maintenance project is the initial phase of comprehensive repair works aimed at ensuring the structural integrity and aesthetics of the bridge’s upper deck.
- Shortly after the Supreme Court upheld President Bola Tinubu’s victory, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Comrade Julius Abure, terminated the appointments of five of his key political aides. This decision was communicated in a statement signed by the National Secretary of the party, Malam Umar Farouk, in Abuja on Saturday.
- The Lamidi Apapa-led faction of the Labour Party has commended the Supreme Court’s decision, which upheld the outcome of the February 25, 2023, presidential election, declaring President Bola Tinubu as the winner. The faction’s spokesperson, Abayomi Arabambi, congratulated Tinubu and appealed to him to show magnanimity in victory.
