  1. In preparation for the 2027 elections, the Senate is poised to amend the Electoral Act to permit diaspora voting, particularly for presidential elections. This move aims to allow citizens, especially those serving essential roles abroad, to participate in the electoral process. Additionally, the Senate, in a communiqué released at the conclusion of its retreat in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa-Ibom State, also resolved to mandate the electronic transmission of election results from the 2027 general elections onwards.
  2. Four individuals suspected of involvement in the recent bank robbery in Otukpo, Benue State, have been apprehended by a joint security operation comprising officers from the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Armed Forces along the Otukpo-Taraku road. A video clip featuring the suspects is currently circulating on social media.
  3. The Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has informed President Bola Tinubu that the Supreme Court can consider new evidence concerning alleged forgery as part of his appeal against the outcome of the February 25 election. The Supreme Court is scheduled to commence hearings on Atiku’s appeal on Monday.
  4. Prof. Attahiru Jega, a former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has called for amendments to the Electoral Act of 2022. He recommended that the President’s authority to appoint the chairman and National Commissioners of INEC be removed to ensure the commission’s impartiality.
  5. Nuhu Sambo, a 19-year-old student of Al-Azhar Academy, Kofar Gayan Zaria, Marwanu, died under contentious circumstances, reportedly due to severe beating and corporal punishment by teachers. The Kaduna State police command confirmed the incident, stating that two suspects have been arrested.
  6. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has urged Nigerians to disregard what it refers to as fake news spread by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) alleging that INEC staff are reconfiguring BVAS machines for the November 11 governorship election in Kogi State. This was conveyed through a post on INEC’s verified social media account.
  7. A wanted murder suspect known as Nnanyereugo Best, also known as Killaboi, was arrested in Sierra Leone. The suspect had been declared wanted by the police for the murder of his girlfriend, Augusta Osedion, a student of Lead City University. He allegedly changed his name to Kanu Princeton Samuel and used $25,000 to obtain a Sierra Leonean passport.
  8. Borno State Commissioner for Rehabilitation, Reconstruction, and Resettlement (RRR), Engr. Ibrahim Idriss Garba, passed away at his Guest House in 777 Housing Estate in Maiduguri on Saturday morning. The cause of the Commissioner’s untimely death remains unknown.
  9. The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, expressed confidence in the party’s victory in the gubernatorial elections scheduled for November 11, 2023, in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa states. He made these remarks while addressing the press at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi after being hosted by Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris.
  10. Two children lost their lives, and two others sustained injuries in Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State when a boat caught fire. The boat ignited due to a mechanical engine fault, setting fire to a jerry can of petrol inside it.
