  • Today, voters in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi states will cast their ballots to elect new governors. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) disclosed that out of the 5,409,438 registered voters in these states, 5,169,692 have collected their permanent voter cards.
  • The National Industrial Court in Abuja has issued a restraining order on the Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress, and their affiliates, preventing them from engaging in any strike or industrial action. This follows the unions’ announcement of a nationwide strike starting November 14, 2023, after an extraordinary National Executive Council meeting.
  • An official from the Independent National Electoral Commission has been reported abducted in the Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. Wilfred Ifogah, head of INEC voters’ registration in the state, stated that the electoral official was kidnapped while waiting to board a boat at the jetty.
  • The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the husband of Toluige Olokoobi, the mother of the “mummy calm down” boy, who recently committed suicide. The spokesperson, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the custody of the deceased’s husband for questioning.
  • In Ibadan, Oyo State, the police paraded a 45-year-old suspected ritualist, Hassan Kolawole, with a fresh human head. The state commissioner of police, Adebola Hamzat, presented Kolawole and nine others arrested for various crimes within the state.
  • There are indications that the Imo State governorship election may face delays in some areas, as ad hoc workers of INEC and Nigeria Police operatives have not yet boarded buses to their assigned locations as of 5 p.m. on Friday.
  • Chief Chekwas Okorie, the Founding National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has expressed skepticism about governorship candidates trusting INEC in the off-season elections of Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa states, deeming it suicidal and dangerous.
  • The Court of Appeal in Abuja has dismissed a fresh suit attempting to exclude Timipre Sylva, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, from Saturday’s election. The three-member panel of justices held that the suit was not justiciable, in bad faith, and statute-barred.
  • The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has deployed its operatives to monitor elections in Bayelsa, Kogi, and Imo states. According to the Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the operations aim to curb electoral fraud and associated crimes.
  • Joseph Ameh, a staff member of Dangote Refinery, died in a hit-and-run accident in the Ibeju Lekki area of Lagos State on Thursday. The incident occurred when the victim was walking along Golf Bustop on the Lekki-Epe Expressway, and the unidentified driver fled the scene after hitting him.
