- Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, clarified on Thursday that he did not betray President Bola Tinubu regarding the certificate forgery allegations. Instead, he asserted that the former Lagos State governor abandoned him and the Action Congress of Nigeria, supporting Umaru Yar’Adua of the PDP in the 2007 presidential election.
- Oil marketers reported that many petroleum product depots now stand empty due to a shortage caused by foreign exchange rate fluctuations. This scarcity is a result of the increased landing cost of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, which has surged to N720 per liter. The landing cost of PMS in Nigeria has risen from N651 per liter in August of this year.
- The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar to accept defeat in the 2023 presidential election, where he came second as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate. Atiku had challenged the election outcome in court but lost as the Presidential Tribunal dismissed his petition.
- Kalu Kalu, one of the lawyers representing former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alleged that one of the documents from Chicago State University (CSU) indicates that Tinubu may have forged the certificate of a black American. He made this assertion during a press conference in Abuja on Thursday.
- The World Bank has reported that the Nigerian naira has depreciated by 40 percent since the mid-June 2023 devaluation, making it one of the weakest currencies in Sub-Saharan Africa. This information was included in the World Bank’s report titled, “Africa’s Pulse: An analysis of issues shaping Africa’s economic future (October 2023 | Volume 28).”
- Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the February 25 general election, reiterated that his Supreme Court case is a pursuit of justice and not an alliance with Atiku Abubakar. In a statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, Obi stated that he was at the Supreme Court to “reclaim his mandate.”
- The Supreme Court has set December 15 as the date for delivering judgments on the appeals filed by the Federal Government against the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu. A five-member panel, led by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, decided on this date following final submissions by the government’s lawyer, Tijani Gazali (SAN), and Kanu’s counsel, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN).
- The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a warning that at least 15 states across Nigeria will experience moderate to heavy rainfall in the next three days. Additionally, NiMet stated that 18 states will face strong winds between today and tomorrow. These weather predictions were released in NiMet’s latest edition of the impact-based weather forecast bulletin, issued on Thursday.
- Ondo State Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has requested that the Chief Judge disregard the House of Assembly’s directive to establish a probe panel. In a letter through his lawyer, Mr. Ebun Olu-Adegboruwa, he argued that proceeding with the impeachment process would constitute contempt of court since there are ongoing cases in the Federal High Court, Abuja, and the State High Court, Akure.
- The Senate has urged the Federal Government to resettle the more than 1.5 million residents of Benue who were displaced by bandits. Furthermore, the legislature called upon the Federal Government to fulfill its promise of providing N10 billion to aid in the reconstruction of the devastated communities in Benue.
