As part of our continuous efforts to become a truly sustainable bank and contribute to a cleaner, more equitable future, we recently donated recycle bins to three secondary schools in Lagos as part of this year’s activities, marking Sustainability Awareness Week #SAW2023.
Sustainability Awareness Week is an annual week-long initiative targeted at mobilising action towards addressing issues around sustainability. It embodies the bank’s dedication to responsible financial practices, environmental stewardship, and socio-economic development. Themed ‘Accelerating Sustainability- Driving Change’, the third edition of the week-long program allowed employees to reaffirm our dedication to the communities we serve.
Energy efficiency, tree planting, environmental protection and recycling were a few other points highlighted over the week to generate awareness and extract pledges from employees to be sustainability champions and ambassadors connecting with diverse stakeholders, including valued customers, partners, and the broader community.
Union Bank, as part of its efforts to make significant investments in various aspects of sustainability, donated recycle bins to three schools across Lagos State: Clegg Girls Senior High School, Surulere, Government College, Surulere, and Methodist Boys High School, Victoria Island.
Students in the schools were encouraged to take responsibility and help protect the environment from the adverse effects of pollution and resource depletion using the recycle bins. They were educated on the detrimental effects of environmental degradation and the threat it poses to a more sustainable future.
Speaking during the commencement of the Sustainability Awareness Week, Union Bank’s Managing Director/CEO Mudassir Amray said:
“Sustainability is not just a buzzword for us; it is the heart of our business. It embodies our dedication to responsible financial practices, environmental stewardship, and socio-economic development. I encourage you to actively engage in the activities planned out for the week by embodying and proudly showcasing the Bank’s core values. Let us unite in our commitment to building a future filled with promise and prosperity for all our stakeholders and future generations.”
Union Bank continues to shape a better, more equitable future for generations as we journey towards a more sustainable future.
