The UK Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, has sent his congratulations to Nigeria’s president-elect, Bola Tinubu.
Tinubu was declared the winner of last weekend’s presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday morning.
INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, declared that Tinubu secured a total of 8,794,726 votes.
Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had 6,984,520 votes, while Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) polled 6,101,533 votes.
In a post on Twitter, Sunak said he was looking forward to working with Nigeria to grow the two country’s security and trade.
“Congratulations to @officialABAT on his victory in Nigeria.
“The UK-Nigeria relationship remains strong. I look forward to working together to grow our security and trade ties, opening up opportunities for businesses and creating prosperity in both our countries,” Sunak tweeted.
