One stray bullet or a piece of shrapnel in the cooling system and it’s over. Air cooled radials were considered less easy to bring down.
That’s why it’s the best ! Takes a liking keep on ticking……..♥️♥️♥️♥️🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Wow a lot of these images I’m shocked they even made it back.
I bet ground crew said something along the lines of… Oi mate it look like you took a bit of the kicking 😁
more incredible is the fact that it landed safely 👏🏻👏🏻
Amazing that it managed to land safely
“You can’t park there mate”
And he did his way back home
Long way home with that wound 😳
That’ll buff right out
no matter, it’s plug&play
Il devait être au sol.
no way that flew like that. had to have been damaged on the ground.
Yikes!!
Wrong it was damaged on a forward airfield in Normandy by a mortar round . During a German attack this was not done by flak damaged. Look at the ground this was in a flypast magazine a few months ago.
Leading Aircraftman R.P. Coulson removes the guns from a Canadian (RCAF) Spitfire which was heavily damaged. In this case, an RCAF Spitfire has been blasted on the ground at Grave, Holland, in March 1945. The damage was inflicted by a fragmentation bomb dropped during a hit-and-run raid from the Luftwaffe. Night bomber or me-262 raid most likely.
They don’t build them like that anymore
That is a big chunck being yeeted from a wing. Im even suprised and shocked how this did fly all the way home.
Great pilot, bring it home!
Still made it home! One hell of a plane and pilot
Cómo es posible que ese avión siguiera volando…
Yoicks!
