During an interview on Arise Television on Tuesday, Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, stated that it is not the government’s responsibility to create jobs. Adesina highlighted that the government’s role is to create an environment that facilitates job creation while it is the private sector that is responsible for creating jobs.
Regarding President Buhari’s pledge to create three million jobs yearly in 2015, Adesina clarified that he does not remember the President giving a specific number. Instead, the President had stated the percentage of unemployment in the country. Adesina added that it is the government’s duty to create a conducive atmosphere for job creation.
He further noted that Buhari’s administration had made significant strides in all sectors, including infrastructure, oil and gas, security, and legislative matters. He emphasized that the majority of jobs in a country come from the private sector and that the government’s job is to create an environment that enables private businesses to thrive and create jobs.
