Super Eagles’ Libya Trip Marred By Travel Chaos

October 14, (THEWILL) – The Super Eagles have faced significant travel disruption ahead of the reverse leg of their African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifying fixture against Libya.

The Super Eagles, who narrowly won the first leg by a lone goal in Uyo, were due to play the return fixture in Benghazi. However, their journey took an unexpected turn when their aircraft was diverted to Al Abraq, more than two hours from their intended destination.

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) officials reported that upon arrival in Libya, the team encountered further complications. Local authorities allegedly failed to provide transport, forcing the NFF to make alternative arrangements.

Video footage released by the Federation showed players and staff attempting to resolve the situation at a Libyan airport. An NFF source, speaking on condition of anonymity, suggested these issues might be deliberate tactics to disrupt the team’s preparation.

Despite these setbacks, Nigeria will be keen to maintain their position atop Group D. They currently lead with seven points, followed by Benin Republic on six points, Rwanda on two, and Libya, one. The Super Eagles’ focus will now be on overcoming these off-field challenges to earn a positive result in this important away fixture.
