‘Strong’ Mauricio Pochettino talks about fans’ anger personally affecting him after Chelsea vs Wolves

Mauricio Pochettino feels this Chelsea side isn’t good enough after fans booed the players

Mauricio Pochettino says he has been most affected by Chelsea’s 4-2 defeat to Wolverhampton and feels the current Blues side isn’t good enough. The defeat to Wolves saw the Blues drop down to 11th position in the Premier League.

The visitors were better than us in every aspect and turned Stamford Bridge into their backyard. Even though we scored first in the game, we lost confidence and appeared clueless for the majority of the match.

But the Blues got off to a fast start when, in the 19th minute, Moises Caicedo found Cole Palmer with a through ball, and Palmer coolly slid the ball past Jose Sa. However, Wolverhampton responded right away in the 22nd minute when Matheus Cunha fired a shot that slightly deflected off Thiago Silva and went past Dorde Petrovic after Caicedo made a careless error in possession.

Wolves continued their onslaught when Pedro Neto found Ait Nouri free in the box, who rolled Neto’s cross, which took a big deflection off Axel Disasi in the 43rd minute. The visitors piled more misery on the Blues when Malo Gusto caught Cunha in his box and the referee pointed towards the spot.

Wolves made it 4-1 in the 82nd minute. Thiago Silva’s header in the 86th minute ignited hope for a comeback but it was too late to stage one and Pochettino’s press conference comments laid the marker that the current team isn’t good enough, (h/t Football.London):

“The perception is that Chelsea should be in a different position, but in different circumstances, we are not. One is maybe because we’re not good enough. To understand the fans is really important. I feel sorry. We are disappointed, like them, but until the end, we need to fight together. During the game, we need to work together to get a good result.”

The last two games served as a sobering reminder that we are still a very raw team incapable of winning games on a regular basis. It wouldn’t be fair to place all the blame for this on the manager because the club’s aspirations encompass more than just one area. The board should also be involved when assembling a roster of young players who are vulnerable and raw.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side has suffered a 4-1 defeat in a row.

Because they have little stake in long-term sustainability and will have to wait years for this young team to develop into an elite group, fans may not have the patience. We have been so bad in our last two games that we have conceded eight goals.

However, the Argentine manager needs to adapt to new tactics because his approach is not working and is making players more vulnerable. We may have to adapt to a different approach where he can hide this young side’s shortcomings and make the most of them.
