Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde, has told naysayers in the state and beyond to desist from escalating divisive statements on the ascension process of the next Olubadan to the enviable stool of Ibadanland.
Though he said that there was a very tough tension before the ascension of the late Oba Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II who passed on at 81 on march 14, 2024 after his two-year reign, he nevertheless said that all disputes had been resolved. He therefore stressed that there is no crisis in the Olubadan traditional stool ascension process.
He said this while chatting with journalists when he received his Deputy, Barrister Adebayo Lawal and muslim dignitaries in the Omituntun 2.0 administration who came to pay him a visit in his residence after leaving the Agodi Yidi Muslim Praying Ground.
While saying that any issue concerning the ascension to the Olubadan stool would be resolved without any rancor, the governor said that the Olubadan – in- Council was yet to send an official letter to the state government on its decision on who is to ascend the throne, adding that it is after the nomination by the Council that he will approve or not approve who ascends the throne.
He assured that the government would make best decision in the interest of Ibadan land and Oyo state at large whenever the Olubadan- in- Council finally makes the nomination
Governor Makinde who felicitated Muslims in the state and across the world on the occasion of Eid-el-fitri , called on the faithful in the state and beyond to maintain discipline as this is what the Ramadan is all about.
He said the Ramadan period is a time to deny one’s body of pleasure and worldly satisfaction in honor of Allah, adding that Muslim faithful have been able to successfully complete their fast due to discipline. He enjoined them to uphold the virtue in all spheres of their lives.
Earlier in his speech, the Deputy Governor, Adebayo Lawal, thanked the governor for the love he has been showing the Muslim community in the state since his ascension in 2019, stressing that the governor has done more for the Muslim community in the state, than any Muslim governor the state has ever had.
