Stephen Graham is starring in the new Disney Plus series from Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight.
A Thousand Blows: Official teaser trailer
Stephen Graham looks battered and bruised in the latest sneak peek for the new series from Peaky Blinders mastermind Steven Knight, set to hit Disney Plus.
The critically acclaimed star of Boiling Point is expected to pack a punch with his “knock-out performance” in A Thousand Blows, which will drop on the streaming service in 2025.
Disney Plus has dropped some early snaps ahead of the show’s World Premiere at the BFI London Film Festival, teasing the gritty underworld of illegal boxing in Victorian London’s 1880s.
The teaser trailer gives fans a tantalising look at BAFTA award-winner Malachi Kirby, famed for his role in Steve McQueen’s Small Axe, portraying Hezekiah Moscow.
In A Thousand Blows, the young man “finds himself thrust into the vibrant and violent melting pot of post-industrial revolution London’s East End from Jamaica”.
The synopsis continues: “Drawn into the criminal underbelly of the thriving boxing scene, he meets Mary Carr (The Crown’s Erin Doherty), leader of The Forty Elephants – the notorious all-female London gang – as they battle for survival on the streets.
“As Hezekiah sharpens his new skills, he comes up against Sugar Goodson (Stephen Graham), a seasoned and dangerous boxer and the two are soon locked into an intense rivalry that spills out way beyond the ring.”
The broader ensemble cast features Francis Lovehall as Hezekiah’s closest friend Alec Munroe, Jason Tobin as Mr Lao and James Nelson-Joyce as Edward “Treacle” Goodson, reports the Express.
The Forty Elephants gang drama has announced its cast, with Hannah Walters taking on the role of Eliza Moody and Darci Shaw stepping into the shoes of Alice Diamond. Joining them are Nadia Albina as Verity Ross, Morgan Hilaire as Esme Long, Jemma Carlton as Belle Downer, and Caoilfhionn Dunne portraying Anne Glover.
The ensemble is further bolstered by Susan Lynch playing Jane Carr, Daniel Mays featuring as William ‘Punch’ Lewis, Adam Nagaitis as the Earl of Lonsdale, Gary Lewis as Jack Mac, Tom Davis as Charlie Mitchell, and Robert Glenister as Indigo Jeremy.
Produced by The Story Collective in collaboration with Matriarch Productions and Water and Power Productions, the series promises to be a gripping watch.
Originating from the mind of Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, who is concurrently developing a new Peaky Blinders film for Netflix and the BBC, the show is generating significant buzz.
Stephen Graham is set to appear in the upcoming film, a detail that Netflix confirmed just yesterday, adding to the excitement surrounding the Cillian Murphy-led drama.
The movie’s cast already boasts names like Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, and Barry Keoghan, and will also feature Sophie Rundle, Ned Dennehy, Packy Lee, Ian Peck, and Jay Lycurgo.
Filming commenced last week on the Peaky Blinders film, which is being touted as “an epic continuation of the multi-award-winning gangster saga, set in the lawless streets of Birmingham in the 1900s”.
Steven Knight is producing the film alongside Patrick Holland, Cillian Murphy, and Guy Heeley.
A Thousand Blows is set to stream exclusively on Disney+ in the UK and Ireland, Hulu in the U. S. and on Disney+ in select other countries come 2025.
